Moxibustion - Chinese mugwort plant, processed and burned either as small loose cones or as formed rolled sticks while held close to the skin along points and channels to provide warming and moving action for Qi and blood - MODALITY COMING SOON

Gua Sha - Scraping the Skin
A manual therapy using small blunted tools (often out of bian stone or jade, but can also be smoothed horn, a ceramic soup spoon, or smooth coins) to move Qi and blood in the most superficial channels, promoting movement and localized healing cellular response by bringing fresh Qi and blood to the area

Ba Guan - Cupping

Tui Na - Grasping and Pulling
A Chinese modality of massage, which incorporates Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, acupressure, and familiar massage techniques

Auricular Acupuncture
Small needles inserted (or small seeds affixed) to points on the ear, highly effective for addressing addictions and trauma from the site of the body

Seven Star Needle
A small plastic device with several short needles affixed to the head, used for dermal therapies including hair loss and scarring

Electro-stimulation
Uses a small device to run low current between two acupuncture needles, increases stimulation of channels and points, increasing the potential therapeutic effect

TDP Lamp
An adjustable heat lamp with a ceramic element which emits infrared radiation, capable of penetrating 2-3 inches into the body, allowing for stimulation of acupuncture points, warming the channels, and encouraging the movement of Qi and blood

Yang Sheng - Nourishing Life
A philosophy of holistically applying the principles that underpin Chinese medicine to one’s life and one’s actions, which makes up most of the preventative approaches to health in TCM - includes diet, movement, sleep hygiene and much more

Manual Lymphatic Routine: Drainage & Detoxification

Phil Hurrle, PRCOnline
31 January 2024 - Online

Balance System Acupuncture, as developed by Da-shi Dr. Richard Teh-fu Tan from the classics of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and refined by Shi-fu Dr. Sonia Tan, is a lineage of channel-based acupuncture which relies on holography (or imaging/mirroring) and a balancing relationship between the channels/meridians of the body to treat pain, orthopedic issues, internal disorders, and emotional disharmonies. BSA operates on the principle of lì gān jiàn yǐng, ‘set up a pole and see the shadow’ - meaning that if we insert a needle we should see instant effect.

I use Balance System Acupuncture predominately in my clinic, although I have many tools with which to practice.

I intend to enroll in the BSA certificate program under Dr. Tan in the Fall of 2024.

Scar Treatment with Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine

More to come

Katrina Hanson, L.Ac., Prism Learning
5 February 2024 - Online

Watch this space!

A one-hour online course in performing manual lymphatic drainage techniques, and the use of associated tools.

A one-hour online course in utilizing acupuncture and TCM modalities to: improve patients’ confidence in their appearance by reducing the visibility of their scars; address underlying impact of scars on the meridians and organs; mobilize scar tissue to prevent complications and chronic pain; improve sensation, even years after surgery.

I plan on eventually offering dedicated pre- and post-gender confirming surgery treatment plans for those undertaking those big moments in life.
